DRONEPORT : Drone Reservation Tool

Droneport  (droneport.eu) is a drone excellence center and drone incubator in Belgium, with its own aviation and drone specific facilities, which includes a dedicated and segregated airspace for drone operations, training and testing. All of this happens on a former military airbase and the surface of all drone specific activities is roughly 26 ha.

 

In order to manage all the drone flights within the drone airspace of Droneport IDRONECT has powered a drone flight reservation application. This application allows new and existing users of the drone test facilities to check when the different airspaces are available and book a flight.

Since each airspace has its own characteristics and limitations, users need to show by means of their profiles that they meet the requirements in terms of licenses, insurance etc.

 

 

Once a drone user has checked availability of the airspace, he/she can reserve or request a slot. The airport commander receives the request and approves the slot reservation all through the IDRONECT powered application.Pilots who already use IDRONECT for their activities save some extra time as their profiles are already known.

Needless to say that the flight reservation and confirmation application is followed up by the invoicing and customer management capabilities of IDRONECT.

 

There is another really powerful feature that forms the basis of the Droneport Flight Reservation tool. That is that the airport commander manages the airspace he is supposed to control. While ‘normal’ airspace (the airspace that is shared between drones, helicopters, airplanes and birds) is managed and controlled by so-called Air Navigation Service Providers , the airspace of Droneport is segregated from that and managed by the Droneport commander. IDRONECT allows just that: the airspace characteristics of all Droneport zones (there are 7 of them, one of which is indoor) such as geographical boundaries, height limits, license requirements, … are inserted and managed by the commander. He is in full control of the dataset of his airspace. The same principle can be used for other types of (temporary) segregated airspace such as concerts, events, tests, …

On top of that, with the integration of tracking and geofencing in IDRONECT, this feature is also available to all white label developments. So in this case, drones can be followed in realtime by the Droneport commander as a full-blown air traffic management tool.
